Self discipline is the subject that has the most importance in my life right now. How can you control your life if you can’t control yourself. Setting up an alarm at 7AM to go jogging and failing yourself in the morning. Intend to do something in the future then surrender to laziness and fake critics about the decision making.
One expression I heard a lot in movies and books and thought I understood is :
“Life isn’t a fairy tale, you are the master of your life”
Seems logical and obvious, until it truly becomes part of your life and you see it from a different angle. We’ve been led to believe that with each beginning, a resolving, fulfilling end will eventually come. That no matter how the bruise lasts there will come a time where it heals. That endings are meaningful. That life is poetic. But look back at your life…
How many friendships you taught would last forever abruptly ended without a resolving end ?
How many dreams you taught were the very significance and value of your life faded away ?
What about that unbreakable love you once felt for that special person… you taught it was a holly love, written in the skies above… it just ended.
How many expectations turned into disappointments ? You were living a fairy tale. Thinking that there’s a good ending for every story. But life doesn’t work that way, life is unpredictable, but fortunately… controllable. Don’t wait for some magic power to surprisingly fix everything. You are the creator of your own destiny. Steering the direction of your life one decision at a time.
It doesn’t matter if your intentions are good, it doesn’t matter if you think you’re a good person. If you don’t stand up for yourself and go get what you want, the only way that’s gonna happen is if someone did your job for you out of pity, and that’s not pretty to think about.
If you think that God will help you with everything you’re mistaken. A great man once said : “Consider reasons as if they were everything, and consider your trust in God as if it was nothing”. This doesn’t mean that God is useless (He most certainly isn’t), He created the world we’re living in, and Causality is one of its laws. You can’t just sit around and hope that everything will solve itself. He Himself said to do whatever it takes to accomplish your goal, and then leave what’s out of your reach to Him.
If you leave with one idea from this article be it that life is controllable, it’s not a written story you think you have no control on. Your whole life can change within a few hours, and that’s not some motivational buy-my-books speech (or in this case share-my-blog… although that would be appreciated ^^’) no, you can change your life in the next days just by going outside, spotting someone in the park sitting by themselves and starting a conversation with questions you’ve never asked before. Good luck.
